As much as I enjoy using Mastodon vis-a-vis Twitter (although that’s largely because Tweetbot has reincarnated as Ivory), I don’t understand why people are pretending that what we need is better micro-blogging services. The ‘old internet’ hasn’t died, it’s called blog/RSS. That’s the fediverse. The real problem is ‘micro-’ part—the assumption that communicating in short bursts of hot takes should be the default way. It’s a Neil Postman thing.
