Neil Postman is one of my all time favorite people. Nice to see him mentioned. Love his ideas and how he communicated them

https://werd.social/@ben/113511606402032855 As much as I enjoy using Mastodon vis-a-vis Twitter (although that’s largely because Tweetbot has reincarnated as Ivory), I don’t understand why people are pretending that what we need is better micro-blogging services. The ‘old internet’ hasn’t died, it’s called blog/RSS. That’s the fediverse. The real problem is ‘micro-’ part—the assumption that communicating in short bursts of hot takes should be the default way. It’s a Neil Postman thing.

The society is already a terminal case according to the symptoms he laid out; 2). It’s too easy to brush him off as a luddite. But there’s evidence that the elite actually put their money where Postman’s mouth is: https://bsky.app/profile/nickkapur.bsky.social/post/3kkwcq7do2j2m
