Not nearly as exhausted stepping off the train as the last time we did this distance in a car. Grateful for the adventure; would do again

Caught the sunset as we were pulling into Roseville, CA! 4:30pm the day after departure at 8:40am (7:40 PT, 32 hours). WHAT AN ADVENTURE

Tired but enjoying the fall foliage

Donner Lake - a place I’ve been many times (via car) and noticed the train high above the lake. Now I got to see from up here!

Headed up to the Sierra Nevadas!

Got myself a coffee, M&M's, and a sparkling water for $9 (fairly reasonable concession prices) and am settling in for some more journal reviews and writing in the observation car

Used our 5 minute stop to stretch. The platform was so small the train had to make two stops to fit. Winnemucca, NV

The actual food. We asked for some hot sauce and got Tabasco.  Very appreciated
We then headed over to the breakfast car, had a rather filling breakfast - better than the average continental breakfast in my opinion
Our neighbor Jack mentioned that we'd been stopped for quite a while at night but luckily we slept right through that
Good morning. We awoke halfway through Nevada and more snow than I expected. My sleep was better than any vehicle sleep I've ever had. Gentle rocking of the train + earplugs + eye mask was a treat. Savannah had a less than stellar sleep, mostly because the top bunk is not as cushy and I didn't realize this up front, which I would've offered
We've spent the evening tucked in watching a train movie: Snowpiercer
We've been paired with 3 people so far and they have all been wonderful. The first was Jack, a volunteer firefighter. And for dinner we sat with a couple from the UK- they came here by boat! Masters of slow travel
Not sure how I felt about getting paired up for the meals (there are tables for 4: 2 facing 2). On the one hand, it's so interesting to get a context like this to meet someone else; it feels summer camp / first day of school / mixer energy. On the other, what if we get some weirdos? I suppose everyone willingly going across the country in a train is a bit weird

We're in a comfortable room moving through nature and we're not control (ie driving). This slow soft pace feels so good. - Sav

And every so often you get a beautiful peek out into the wild

Daylight computer performing admirably. Rather well suited to the slower pace of the train, though writing in the rocking takes some getting used to
