On culture Around 10 years ago(2014 or even before) Peter Thiel contrarian thinking became very popular in SF and Silicon Valley. It evolved in “takes” culture. I had friends who would do ridiculous “takes” because it was contrarian. And they thought that any mainstream ideas is wrong. 10 years later this “contrarian” absolute idea which evolved in “takes culture” went mainstream. And it got merged with the “conspiracy theories” crowds. And it does feel that now we are in trouble. Too many people now think that the opposite of widely held ideas is the truth. So original “contrarian thinking” idea mutated in the past 10 years in this ridicules monster. It was supposed to be a tool to check for truth and insights and now it’s a way to hide arrogance, ignorance and so on.
